Olympic organisers scrambled on Sunday to quell a scandal over depressing TV images of half-empty stands at the London Olympics as a government minister said an urgent inquiry had been launched to identify just who had failed to show up, and why.Fans from all over Britain who had been charmed by the Olympic publicity offensive, but were let down by a complex ballot system, were outraged by footage of empty seats at key venues including Wimbledon - one of the hottest tickets in world tennis.

It is very noticeable that the gaps are all concentrated in blocks in the premium seats that went to the Olympic sponsors, the media and other groups with privileged access to tickets. The cheap seats for the plebs were naturally all occupied by real fans.
When the corporatists don't even take up the wealth they are given - and let it go to waste in front of the eyes of the people they exploit then that's just greed for its own sake .
The joke is that these events could easily have been full if the initial huge application for tickets had been handled in a fairer and more democratic manner.
On edit I have friend whose wife is a very good club swimmer and whose Mother in Law was only pipped for a place in the British team at the 1960 Rome Olympics by Anita Lonsbrough, the eventual Gold medal winner in the 200 metre breast stroke. Both applied for London 2012 tickets at the swimming events but both were unsuccessful in the ballot. They must be completely
pissed off seeing all those wasted seats at their favourite sport.

... as this "government's"
"ministers"
seem to spend most of their time doing these days.
They seem to be reduced to serving as full-time fall-guys for their Fat Cat buddies.
