Just wondering how many here are following the impeachment hearings

Fiona Hill, a dual British--American citizen, is now testifying and she's quite compelling.

In her opening statement she spoke of being born into a poor family in the Northeast of England and compared the opportunities available to her her here as opposed to those in her birthplace. It was interesting and I wondered if anyone else here heard it and had any reaction.

I don't know what to say about Andrew, partly because I don't know the extent of his guilt or innocence, and partly because I've really never understood the place of the royals in British society.

Election over here and impeachment in US - I am in nerd stressful nirvana. I saw her on the news tonight... very compelling, and in some ways she is not wrong about the advantages in America for civil servants, after all the civil service is much larger...

though I haven't been watching it live (the BBC Parliament channel has been carrying it - if today is typical, they cover election stuff in the UK morning, and then have the impeachment during our afternoon/evening).

but the UK in general is not really following them. We have an imminent and quite worrying general election of our own, which is preoccupying the more political in the UK. Against the background of the general Brexit nightmare.


And there is the scandal about Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein, which is a big thing in the media.

It's a tense time in politics here as you can imagine, and Remainers like myself have been accused repeatedly of 'trying to subvert the will of the people', etc. So we're a bit on the defensive. Didn't mean to snap at you; I know you are also suffering from a crazy government!
