Do you remember our grannies loo rolls doily's when we were kids?

So, I was in Harrods today in the Shoe Heaven department which is glorious! And then I came across these shoes...

Don't know how much they cost... if you have to ask you cannot afford them, but all I could see was circa 1975 and this horror

Shoe doily's apparently a thing in 2021. LOL

And I do remember the crocheted toilet roll covers - they were kind of like tea cozies with doll bodies. Back in the '70s and earlier one was expected to tart up one's bathroom with those things, plus chenille lid covers and rugs that fit around the bottom of the toilet. Icky and unsanitary.

Dollys remind me of Dove soap & church bazzars.

My uncle's mother was prolific at crochet so I think perhaps she created this. It covers the smallest container of scouring powder I've ever seen.

6. Is the knittted bit attached to the "shoe" (or flip-flop)? Or is it a sort of flared ankle warmer?

They seem to display them on things very unlike feet. Which is strange.

when she wasn't on her feet she was sitting doing crochet, knitting or needle-point. She
and all the others like her brought a lot of beauty into the world.

... Will find it very much the sort of thing that they like. Each to their own. I'm sure Matalan and Primark will be doing cheapo versions of this before too long

Just be glad you've still got department stores! The ones near me are shutting at an alarming rate.

I truly believe that men invented high heels so women couldn't run away effectively
