Finds near Stonehenge shed light on child labor in antiquity

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/sep/18/stonehenge-gold-workers-metal-children-eyesight

Thousands of years ago, people were just as interested in beautiful gold items as anyone is now. And working to craft these treasures may have cost the eyesight of many children. Researchers working today near Stonehenge say they have discovered ample proof of labor practices that would be appalling today, but were common in ancient times.

Tunbridge ware is a form of decoratively inlaid woodwork, typically in the form of boxes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunbridge_ware

As may be seen banjos were produced in the same manner. There is no doubt whatsoever that would have cost those children their eyesight possibly by age 12 - 14 years old - constant close focus some in bad light.

btw - I do have one of the largest collections of American and English banjos in the UK right back to an Henry C. Dobson 1867 pat. and hence my touchiness on this associated subject which I learned of c.2002.

Thanks for posting.
