(8,515 posts)Also, Buddy Roemer was a good candidate. They just weren't "establishment", so were not allowed in.

(505 posts)Remember when Christie was badgered to enter the primary because the R field was so awful? (as evidenced by the LOW primary turnout)
Christie said that he was TOLD that it was not his time.
They were blocked b/c they were better candidates than Romney.

(8,200 posts)The other candidates could not be nominated because the GOP has come under the control of extremists. Until balanced is restored to the GOP they will only be able to offer unacceptable candidates. I would desire that GOP regain its Eisenhower mentality so that they could actually offer responsible solutions and especially when they do gain the majority they do not repeat the same tragic mistakes that took place during the Bush administration. This is the point that I was attempting to make. Many members of the party are acknowledging the fact that Romney was unacceptable, however, how are they going to break the stranglehold that the Teabaggers have on their party?

(3 posts)Indeed, I believe the GOP is stuck in a kind of post-Eisenhower, "Mad Men" time-warp (as Matthew Dowd proposed), and I elaborate on this theme in my blog on Etalkinghead. Underlying so much of the Tea Party/far right rhetoric is, I believe, a deep mistrust of "the modern", in nearly all its cultural and social forms. I hope DU readers will take a look at the essay, at:
