Who will be the Democratic nominee for the 2024 MD US Senate Election if Cardin retires and the
Democratic candidates are Raskin,Sarbanes,and Trone?
Sarbanes is the frontrunner due to high statewide name recognition(son of a former 5 term MD US Senator.) Sarbanes has been in US Congress since 2007. Hoyer and Ruppersberger have served longer than Sarbanes. Hoyer and Ruppersberger are unlikely to run due to their age(late 70’s/early 80’s).
Raskin is the most progressive candidate in the Democratic primary. Raskin was a constitutional lawyer and law professor. Raskin is likely to get an endorsement from the Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warrens of the Democratic Party.
Trone represents a swing US House District in MD.
