Campaigns
Related: About this forumI have just contacted the Clinton campaign...
Since Dec 22, I have received 6 emails from the Clintons (Hill, Bill, & today, Chelsea) asking me for $$.
I believe that my email address was accessed because of the data breach, since I have never been a fan of hers...
I have asked them to remove my name & email from their list, but they just keep on, so today I told them: Every time I hear from the Clinton campaign asking me for $$, I will donate $10.00 to Bernie Sanders, and I will suggest that my fellow free-thinkers do the same.
Are you with me???

(4,883 posts)the strong support has pushed the conversation to the left - only a fool would think that is money down the tubes

You say you're donating to Bernie, they reply that you're wasting your money.
Aren't they lovely?
It's designed to make you give up on supporting Bernie and come on over to their side.
Is it working on you?
It always make me think of Nellie Olsen from Little House on the Prairie.

I haven't gotten any yet, but would have deleted or put in junk filter. Love your idea!

(816 posts)Both campaigns have their people signing up new people and that is their property. They don't have to share that information. Everyone should just relax. If you get solicitations from the other campaign just unsubscribe or delete. For the record, notice I didn't infer anything from the solicitations.

(12,448 posts)I emailed them saying I wanted no more. They sent me an opt-out link, and I must say, it's worked so far.
It's hard for some people to believe, but not everything is a conspiracy. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

(24,411 posts)I love Bill Clinton. I met him and totally stuck up for him through that entire debacle.
But seriously...you bring up a cigar and act shocked that someone mentioned Bill Clinton?
His name is forever associated with the word.
Unfortunately.
NastyRiffraff
(12,448 posts)O! mea maxima culpa! Honestly, I don't think of Bill Clinton when I think of cigars, or vice versa. I suppose that in here, I should. My mistake.

(6,443 posts)For Petes sake one is enough. If I choose or don't choose to donate sending me six isn't going to change my mind. All this tactic does is piss people off. It's like cyberstalking. Enough! The same "genius" behind this so called strategy must be the same idiot behind the "donate now or we all die" emails during the run up to the midterms. It does nothing to generate enthusiasm or inform would be supporters but, instead, alienates people by making them feel like they are nothing but open pockets to pick. From now on I donate only to mail requests since they are less intrusive of my time and I can respond when I have time and desire not because of their endless haranguing.

You have so many wonderful options rather than getting upset. But it's your choice
benfranklin1776
(6,443 posts)I think you missed the point which is how sending said emails constitutes a form of counterproductive spam that is idiotic and annoying, so the wonderful "choice"is vested in the hands of the brain dead "strategist" who thinks this constitutes effective campaigning and who has the responsibility to choose not to spam people's inboxes. But I understand times are tough since this method didn't pan out when they tried it to sell Viagra.

(11,417 posts)You fit a democratic that a computer said could be a Hillary donor.
It is spam I agree
benfranklin1776
(6,443 posts)It has nothing to do with building genuine grass roots support or enthusiasm- all the things that campaign contacts are supposed to have as their primary objectives. Instead the tenor of these emails is that of a naked shakedown for cash, and the frequency of them makes people less likely to want to give or view the candidate favorably particularly when their day is repeatedly interrupted once an hour to read them when they come through on mobile devices. You're right that they are probably automated and based on a profile since I did what the original poster recounted, and I specifically requested that the campaign limit them yet they keep rolling in. So yes I could totally unsubscribe from the campaign's email list which then ensures they get no money or other forms of non financial support, but neither I nor any other supporter should be put in that position. It really is a dumb tactic as during the midterm barrage of such emails from the dccc I know at least 7 people who got so disgusted they unsubscribed from their list completely. The bottom line is quantity is no substitute for quality. A single compelling appeal that speaks to why a candidate is worthy of support has far greater effect than a thousand "give me money right now" algorithmic beggings.

Every time you, as a Bernie Supporter, get an unsolicited email from Hillary - Send BERNIE $10 !

(38,958 posts)If the HRC campaign is sending out fund raising emails to supporters of that campaign one would suppose they are at least less unwanted emails. While I am supporter of Bernie Sanders and his campaign with a monthly donation, if I get some requests for funds from the Clinton Campaign or any others which I do not support I know how to delete them. I also can find the unsubscribe feature in most emails and can use it.
It's really not that big of a deal to me......
