Seems it’s fairly common problem. Consumer reports rates reliability very low.

Did not know the Class action was killed off. Fortunately,we have our Appliances rolled into our Home Owners. Learned our lesson with Sears and Whirlpool Water Heaters. Lucky it only cost us a Grand after 42 k damage to our house. So much for their nine year Warranty, they do not pay for the damage caused by Heater failure and they pro rate the replacement unit based on years of in service. 87 dollars.

Our Kenmore Elite died after 4 years, the linear compressor went out and the repair guys we use said these are useless. They told us it was made by LG.

Sears wouldn’t honor the warranty because the compressor was an LG, which the owners didn’t know. What a racket.

Had a very expensive GE one and the bearings went out for the drum after 3 years. Repair man said $2,500 to fix, a little more than I paid for it. Had to be completely taken apart and put back together. Now have a top load and will never buy a front load again.

14. Anyone that has small kids should never buy a front load.

I think that they are fundamentally unsafe with kids that are small enough to get inside one (the medium load ones are more that large enough for a 2-3 year old to get into). Even if a kid does not get locked inside, just him or her panicking can lead to horrible outcomes.

that she and Dad bought in 1954. I replaced the electric plug a few years ago, but otherwise it's just fine!

Today, if something breaks, it is cheaper to buy a new one.

my grandfather went downtown when refrigerators were first coming out in 1938
the store had one but it was already sold and they could order one for him.
he said: I've got cash.
he got the fridge that day.
it was still working in 1981 when they died.

how come 'fridge' has a 'd' while 'refrigerator' does not?

16. Pronunciation.

How would you pronounce "frige"? Yeah, something like freye - g. With the final g pronounces like the g in "great".

The spelling "fridge" has you pronouncing it the same as the middle syllable in "refrigerator". And in that word, the g has the sound it has because of the e that immediately follows.

English spelling and pronunciation is tricky, but not completely opaque.

13. LG - Lucky Goldstar. Remember the $50 TVs from the 1980s sold at Bradlees that failed all the time?

.

They had such a bad rep, back in the 80s and 90s.

When they came back into this country, they removed Goldstar and called themselves LG.
