The server you requested content from, required talking to another server to generate some or all of the page contents. The server to server communication either timed-out or there was a communication error, such as the second server is offline. The server you are requesting data from is not at fault and neither is your browser. You cannot fix this error.

You dial Ralph on the phone.
Ralph answers with, "Hello."
You ask Ralph, "When is Jane's birthday?"
Ralph did not cache this data in his datebook.
Ralph attempts to research this information for you; He looks around the room, but cannot find Jane right now.
So Ralph yells back into the phone, "502.1 Bad Gateway," then hangs up the phone.
You are S.O.L.
