Moving picture from folder to folder (PC)

I have thousands of photos from a recent trip. I'd like to go through these pictures at full screen view and if I like the picture have the ability to either keyboard or click the mouse to save to a created folder named "Best".

Will Irfanview do this?
Others? Freeware?

You can view pictures from a folder in fullscreen mode and step though them via the Spacebar, Left Arrow, Right Arrow, Home, and End keys - when you see a picture you like, you can move it to a different folder by hitting the F7 key. (Set up the directory in a number slot and then when you hit F7 again just hit that number key to use that same directory. You'll see what I mean when you hit the F7 key the first time.)

As you can tell from that description, that isn't saving a copy of the image file - it is actually moving it to a different folder. When you are done and close Irfanview, you could select all the image files that were moved and copy them all and paste them back into the originating folder. Regardless of what you decide to do, I would duplicate/backup the original folder before starting just in case something doesn't get moved/copied correctly - you can always return to your backups to get the original file.

You could also do this in Windows Live Photo Gallery - although it wouldn't be fullscreen, rather most of the visible area of the screen. Advance through the pictures with the Left Arrow and Right Arrow keys (or click the Previous or Next icons), when you find an image worth saving click the Make a copy icon. That will actually save a copy to a new location, leaving the original where it is. The user interface of Windows Live Photo Gallery is (not surprisingly) fairly unintuitive - but it doesn't take too long to figure out by just clicking and double-clicking on stuff until something useful happens.

...1. create that "Best" folder.
2. Right click the "Best" folder then left click Create shortcut. (A shortcut will appear on your desktop.)
3. Open a Windows Explorer window.
4. In the address bar of the Windows Explorer window type "sendto". (This will open the 'SendTo' folder.)
5. Drag the shortcut you created in step in step 2 into the 'SendTo' folder.

As you open, view and close each photo, right click (one at a time) those you like and the context menu will appear. One of the options listed is "Send to". Hover over "Send to" and a list will appear. Among the list will be the shortcut you to your "Best" folder. Click that shortcut and the photo file will move to your new folder.

hope this helps

I right click on my desktop and 'create new folder' on the desktop. Hookup my camera and dump all the pictures into the new desktop folder.

Make another new folder on your desk top and name it 'best'. Open the folder with all your pictures and select your 'best' . drag and drop your best pictures right into your 'best' folder.

I plug in a USB flash drive and copy (right click copy/paste) both desktop folders into the flash drive. Now all your pictures are very portable, copied and sorted into 2 folders.

I store copies of all my pictures on flash drives. Work on them on the PC.
