(2,243 posts)Internet Explorer?
Chrome?
Firefox?
Opera?
Others?
How would I try the other browsers? Sorry, not too great in this department....
No reason (yet) that you would need to.
Is there any relatively convenient way to post the text of the error that is preventing you from loading these pages?
From what your OP says I am guessing that you are trying to reach a page or pages about banking or online bill paying. But that is just a guess. No need to tell us the specific page yet. But, if it is a bank sometimes they have higher security standards.

Check the firewall setting for HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443), and FTP port (21).

You will want to check and see if your Internet Explorer is set to use a proxy.
Depending on the version of IE your computer is running there will be some subtle variations in the procedure, but the general outline is:
Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click Network and Internet Connections
Click Internet Options
Click the tab Connections
Click LAN Settings
If there are are any checkboxes with checks in them, please clear them. *
Click OK
Click Apply
Click OK
And then bring up IE and see if it will display your website.
* If all of the checkboxes are already empty then this method will not help, close all windows and let me know they were empty.
Thank You

To use System Restore to restore Windows XP to a previous state, follow these steps.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
Takes a few minutes and the computer will restart.
Here's the Microsoft information for windows xp. The support for xp is limited but there are service pack updates.
