1. Windows 7 Start menu is very similar to XP but....

to get the old XP menu, I think you have to use Classic Shell or another program.

3. Maybe. Way back in May of 2014 when he got it, he said it was Seven.

And you look kuhl in the beret! (Unless you are a blond and that is yr hair - my eyesight is not that good these days.)

Anyway, my spouse's computer screen only has the program files, and folders. Nothing at all like you say Seven or Eight looks like.

What his screen is missing is the entire teal colored panel to the right, that the start menu. And no where is the shut down button either!

Can he then right click Computer and select Properties and get some information about which operating system he is using?

10. "right click" on the corner 'left' start button and you'll see shut down and some other actions.

wish I could help more but I just HATE windows 8 and up, especially the APPs

I just learned how to set the local weather in Windows 10, not that I overly like win10 but, I am learning to get along with it.
