No. Two years is typical. If the batteries came with the devices they were probably junk. HopeHoops May 2012 #7

Otherwise they sit there drawing a small bit of power so they can know when to fully power up.

I recharge the mouse about every 4-5 days. The keyboard has been running on the original batteries for over a year now.

I never use the "batteries included" ones. Duracell or Energizer will last a long time.
