Fire HD 8 Tablet...Getting hooked up to internet...??

My internet is 3g, the computer is an acer..out of the box is not wifi ready...I installed a netgear A6100
WiFi USB Adapter..It has a drive in the device manager and the netgear genie says it is ready to go... The setup page for the fire hd8 says I need to access the internet to setup the table...It is asking for an SSID number and I don't know what that is...the amazon help instruction says;

"To connect your Amazon device, such as your Kindle e-reader, Fire tablet, Fire phone, or Fire TV to a wireless network, you’ll first need to know the name of the Wi-Fi network, and the password for the network (if required).
Tip: Your network name may also be referred to as an SSID; your password may be referred to
as a passphrase or key.

To find your network name or password:

Check the sticker on the bottom of your router.
Check your installation guide or the owner's manual for your router.
View the wireless settings on a device that is already connected to your network, such as a Windows PC, Mac, or mobile phone.

I assumed that when I was connected to the internet...broadband to go...the installed wifi (netgear adapter) would hook up with the FireHD8..automatically, but it needs this SSID number...What are they asking for?

It will pick up the 3G connection and make a direct connection for whatever computer its connected to. I'm looking at the instructions to see if can send out a signal or anything, I don't think it can but I could be wrong.

Edit: Ok, sprint offers a device called the "Mifi2200" it's a modem/router combo. You'll need to get that to share your connection with the tablet.

Sorry I wasn't more help in getting up and going today. I know how it is to get a new toy and can't play because of technical difficulties.

will give you a list of available WiFi networks in range. You should see your router in that list as something like "Berflerouter0463" and it probably will have a little lock pictured on it.

Click on that and when it asks, enter the password that's somewhere on the router label.

The Netgear gadget you bought adds WiFi capability to the computer, but has nothing to do with actually getting an internet connection-- that's what the router does.

Now, if your Acer is a desktop, you would probably be better off just getting a network cable and plugging it in. That's a faster and more reliable connection.

Makes sense!!! Looking at routers...Amazon can get me one fairly quickly..I hate dealing with the best buy guys..they always try to sell the more expensive stuff...

It doesn't work like this...?

Broadband is connected...Installed wifi adapter (in computer) sends internet to tablets wifi?

Or do I need a router that takes the adapter wifi signal and sends it to the tablets wifi?

Is that what I need..a router?

So, when you signed up to the service they probably gave you a device to set up with it. That little device is your modem. The modem takes the signal from them and turns it into something your computer/tablet/whatever can use.

Your modem (Im assuming you have one here) will probably have the ability to also send out a wireless signal. Your computer would then use the wifi adapter you installed in your computer to connect to that. Your tablet will do the same thing.

So, question is do you have a modem device and does it have wifi. If you do have one could you list the modem number or the name that's on it. I'll take a quick look up of the instructions and maybe we can get ya up and runnin.

hooks to the computer via usb...My thought was the wifi adapter I installed on the computer would send a wireless signal (internet connect) to the tablet..
I'm beginning to think I need a router for the computer wifi adapter to connect to which then sends that internet connection to tablet...which is wifi capable...

You'll have to ask them directly if any other devices work with their service, but it's highly unlikely because phone companies like to lock down their services to their own branded devices.

It looks like its a standard router that requires a standard wired modem. Unless Sprint says otherwise you are unfortunately stuck with the 3 modem/router combos they offer.

Question:

Answer:
Me also but for 50.
By Reamziesmom on January 25, 2017
You will need to check with Virgin Mobile. It would depend on what the $40 unlimited is for. Even if you have an account the Mifi billing is a separate bill on a separate device. If you have a Mifi account for internet at $40 a month I'd love to know the plan name so I can switch over.
By Reamziesmom on January 25, 2017
It should as long as it's for a mifi device. You may want to check with them to be sure.
By j_stroud Seller on January 25, 2017
That's what I have also. It works fine for me.
