I restarted it and got a harrowing, unannounced, unforeseen Windows 10 update that took 55 minutes to install! Just because this day wasn't bad enough, I guess. Has anyone else had this happen?

4. Thank you. I printed 19 pages of instructions on what to do

about a stuck "Getting Windows ready" screen when it finally said "Installing updates" which took a long time too. Did you have any warning at all?

11. Interesting....no, mine seemed to execute pretty much without my input.

It took about 20 minutes to download/restart, multiple times. I steer clear when Windows is doing system updates.

6. I did a Windows update yesterday as well

But it only took about 15 minutes. Is your version of Windows from 2010 or 1910?

10. I should add that when it finally restarted it took me back to MSNBC and Gmail.

From now on I will try to use Task Manager to close any programs before I restart.

12. Don't think you have to do that....

typically, MS recovers any apps running (Outlook, Excell, Powerpoint, etc). My Browser (Opera doesn't remember what pages were open. Could be, if you use MS Edge to use GMail or watch MSNBC that it does recover where you were in their browser.

13. Now that I have notifications back on (don't know how they were turned off)

I will feel more comfortable restarting when something locks up. MSNBC was in Edge, Gmail in Chrome.

7. I got the notification but refused.

If you click the message you will go to the scheduling time and day. You can
only put it off for a week if you set it up. But if you look at he top of the page
there is a slider that will let you turn it on or off. I turned mine off. This info
won't do you any good now but it might help others who read this.
