Time to backup my pc-Need some help please.

Should be simple but I've confused myself.

I have a desktop dino PC that is working well. The system total says it is 464 GB .

I am running windows 10 and use Chrome as a browser if that is pertinent.

I have one basic question. I have a external drive reader and I was considering getting a 3.5" drive 1TB as cheaply as possible for the job.

Google searches say that a thumb drive is better for the job. And some are cheaper than the 3.5 drives.

Should I buy a 3.5 or a thumb-1Tb. I'm trying to keep the purchase around $50.00 and on Amazon there are a lot of choices. And a lot of the thumbs have horrid reviews. So I'm a bit lost.

Thanks!-------------

I made my order so thanks for the input.

I have a Sabrent docking usb 3.0 / Sata hard drive reader for 2.5 / 3.5. It plugs in but I'm only using it for save / recovery.

I purchased a 1TB 3.5 Seagate Barracuda drive. I could install it internally but already have the external reader and that suits me better.

It will get plugged in, used & then put in a drawer till I need it. And of course I hope I never do but I went through a PC crash data loss & want something just in case.

make sure you get the right plugs. It should be either a SATA or IDE. You want to look at your PC to make sure.

But some USB thumb drives can run very hot when In use, and can fail on you.

You should get a 2.5 external drive because the 2.5 drives have no need for AC power. The 3.5 external drives need AC power to use them.
