Windows 10 News and Interests enabled for everyone in latest update
By Lawrence Abrams
June 9, 2021

Microsoft has now rolled out the Windows 10 'News and Interests' news feed to everyone and enabled it by default on the taskbar, causing many people to seek how to disable it.

In response to the mass install, BleepingComputer has seen numerous tweets and posts [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] where people ask how to disable the widget or are confused about why it is being displayed.

Others have also reported that the News and Interests feature still has previously reported bugs that mess up the display of the taskbar and its notification icons.

To disable the News and Interests widget, right-click on an empty portion of your taskbar, select 'News and interests,' and then click on 'Turn off.'

Removed it immediately from all devices, except my little laptop/notebook/tablet with a detachable keyboard. There's no 'news and interest' in the menu when I right-click the taskbar. I'll have to dig into it.

I just now see that it has the forecast highs and lows for 4 days. A long time ago I had an app that showed the temp and conditions on the desktop. It went away and all I've had since is a Microsoft weather app that you have to click and wait for to see the temperature.

One bad thing about this one is that any accidental click opens up Edge which is still inferior to Chrome.

Turning it on for a short time - just enough to turn on the 'Reduce Taskbar Updates' option.
