How do I install VLC on my Moto E6 Play from an APK?

Yes, I know it's old. I don't keep this phone on the internet and I don't log in to use app stores. It's running stock Android 9, I think.

What I want to do, is install VLC from an APK. I've done a google search for VLC and "Moto e6 play", but I can't install it. I wind up with VLC2-2.0.6.apk. I've copied that to the SD card, given the phone permission to install unknown apps, but at the end of the installation is "App failed to install" without any error codes or specifics.

I can't stand the default media player any longer and I really would like vlc on this phone but this is defeating me so far. Google isn't helping either.

Is this the wrong apk? What am I doing wrong?

Any help will be much appreciated!

BTW, my phone is an E6 Play, though changing the URL to E6 gives me the same file so I don't think that's it.

Your link goes to VLC-3.4.4.apk, which I've downloaded and copied over to the SD.

Opening it, I get "Do you want to install this application? It does not require any special access."

I click on Install, and then get "You can't install the app on your device."

I've tried one APK after another, and VLC-Android-3.3.4-armeabi-v7a.apk finally did the trick.
