Backseat Driver

Any help?

My modem lights are good; my router lights are good; cables are good. Plugged into surge protector. Windows 10? I think I'm also experiencing some lag insofar as my pinned tabs don't return with their logos unless I restart; they take a long time to show up. Why do I continue to lose my wifi - power variations even though all looks good to go?

I have one. Affordable and it does work. It will beep during a power fluctuation.

Additionally, have you done a virus check ?

Lastly, call your internet company.

if you have run out of ideas, my suggestion would be to disconnect external drives, uninstall third party apps at least any that are possible suspects for issues, disable third party AV if you have it, and then run an in place upgrade/repair.

Unplug router. Wait a few seconds and plug back in. Wait for it to reboot and try again. I’m assuming it’s a wireless router as well as a broadband modem. Isolate the problem. Obviously, your computer is having the problem. Try another device… your phone, tablet, or a friend’s computer to see if you have the same problem.

Download and run the free version of Malwarebytes here: https://www.malwarebytes.com/

If that doesn't find anything or fix the issue, try restarting or cycling the power (unplug for 15 seconds, plug back in, wait for boot) on your router and modem.

If that doesn't fix the issue, try running the network troubleshooter.

Start->Settings->Network & Internet->Status
Under Change your network settings, select Network troubleshooter.
Follow the steps and see if that resolves the issue.

If not, could be a wireless network card driver issue. Check the manufacturer's website for available updates.

Also update Windows 10 if you haven't already.
