Help with extended security update for Windows 10

I really don't want to buy a new laptop and I know I have been procrastinating on following up on this non-support for Windows 10.

So...my laptop is 8 years old and the processor is not acceptable for Windows 11.

I started the enroll in extended security update (which I understand is free if you have Windows 365 or $30 if not)

However I can't go forward because I am getting a msg that an adult needs to sign into the device.

So thinking I didn't have an admin account, I went to the command prompt and set up an Admin account. Restarted my laptop and signed in as Admin user. When I did this the option of enrolling in the extended security update was not there.

I've since discovered that my main user account is an Admin account but when I try to enroll in the update I still get the msg that an adult needs to sign in.

Anyone have any idea why it won't recognize that my account is an Admin account and how I might fix this?

Thanks for any suggestions!

It appears there is a fairly simple way to upgrade to Win 11 on computers that aren't supposed to work Ranting Randy Oct 2025 #2

I think your problem is to do with the Windows built in gaming options. I delete all the x-box stuff so don't have much to go on.

Try digging through any or all of these categories in settings:

Gaming
Parental
Family options

Good luck.

Found this. May be some helpful info here.

so the assumption was I am a child. Entered my birthday and the enrollment worked!

Not sure if this will help or not.
