Anyone familiar with duckduckgo search engine?
Is it more secure from spying than others? How well does it work compared to Google?

(2,805 posts)It aggregates search results from both Google and Bing and possibly one or two other search engines. So it basically performs your search on Google and Bing and shows you the results without you giving your IP address to Google or Bing.
The primary benefit is that it does not store your searches so it would be more secure in that way.

(84,711 posts)I have to do a lot of searching for our business..and Google and Bing were getting impossible. The ads...the pumping useless stuff to the top so I'd have to search pages for what I needed.
What I like about DDGG is that it's "clean." Haven't had the ad diversion, distraction and that "list" of everything I searched dogging me.
It's faster and even if you are searching for a past article to reference something to post on DU it has been fast and gives me quicker links than Google/Bing.
There are a few things that only Google/Bing can find if I'm looking for something really specific in the weeds...but, then it takes forever because of the ads and pumping useless links and info at me. If DDGG were using "tracking" I would be getting all that useless stuff...so for NOW it seems they are not. Although how they will make money without what Google/Bing do is a question for the future.
It's only been a week I've been using...but very pleased.
