Win 8 Problem
Has anyone here gotten stuck at the Windows 8 welcome screen, after typing in the password and waiting for the apps to show up?
My computer (an Acer Aspire) is only a day old (well, since I bought it), so this is a little disconcerting. I didn't know what else to do, so I just simply disconnected the batter and power supply. I immediately began configuring, I think updates, and when I got back to the screen of the Space Needle, I clicked on it and typed in my password. I may be a little paranoid, but it seemed to hang longer than when I first turned the laptop on yesterday, but went through.
Did I do something wrong? Or not do something?
Thanks!

(37,461 posts)It may have a lot of crapware that causes it to load super slow.

(895 posts)I figured the extra programs would make it a little slower, but I would figure that my login earlier would be similar to the attempt that ultimately became unsuccessful, you know?

(37,461 posts)Try this. Tap F8 as you are booting up to try to get it into Safe mode, then look at the installed programs in Control Panel.
If you see anything non-essential, you may wish to uninstall them. My memory is sometimes you cannot uninstall during Safe Mode, so getting logged in normally would be best, if you can.
Let it boot up for maybe ten minutes. If it still won't boot up....not good at all.

(895 posts)I want to explore the pre-installed programs first before I begin deleting them, but I know I don't need all that jazz. I made a factory default backup almost as soon as I took the laptop out of the box, so I guess if push comes to shove, I could reinstall Windows using that?

(37,461 posts)I've always had an OEM or Windows disk to use. Someone here will know the answer.

(21,632 posts)It has to install all of you apps for the unwanted, useless, and otherwise horrific Metro screen. It should be faster after that.
On edit, it sounds like you are past your initial logon.
If you are able to get in at all, create a new user and see if the problem persists with it. It sounds like a profile issue if it isn't the first logon.

(895 posts)After it installed updates, I haven't had a problem with it. It gives me two revolutions at the welcome screen and then goes on to metro.
I'm thinking it has something to do with having uninstalled updates waiting to be installed. I don't know why that would get in the way of logging into metro, though.

If so, disconnect them and reboot.
Also, is your win 8 account associated with a Microsoft account? If so, create a new account and don't associate it and see if the problem persists.
