Flashing orange blinky light

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop.

Earlier today when I first turned my computer on I noticed down at the far right bottom corner below my screen a flashing orange light.

I normally turn on the computer in the house then bring it outside and then plug it in - only takes a minute or two to do that.

After it booted up the battery icon said it was down to 70% -- no way it could have lost 30% in a couple of minutes.

So, I turned it off, took the battery out, put it back in, and rebooted. The battery icon then said 71% and then couple of seconds later it said 99%.

Now is says A/C on but the orange light is still blinking like crazy - it's been blinking now for about 6 hours.

Anyone know what's up with that? And how can I get the flashing to stop?

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give me
