Firefox, Safari, Explorer?

Most often, these can be turned off in the "view" pull down list.

You've already been asked what browser you're using, etc... If you want answers, answer questions.

Open Internet Explorer and click to the right of the open tab in the empty space. There you should see some options for Toolbars. Tick the Menu bar which will bring back the usual headings of File-Edit-View etc.

There should also be an option for whichever toolbar you don't like and you can untick that one. Give the name of the toolbar you untick and someone can figure out how to remove it.

when you say open IE ... that is the little "e" icon, correct? when I click on that it automatically pops up to yahoo and the toolbar at the top of that is some fucked up POS that I have never seen before. It has a little yellow star w/ a small green arrow pointing to some crap that I don't want to show. It is keeping tabs open and it is BS. I can not find it to uninstall it. and it is not showing up in the options place to be either enabled or disabled ... is any of this making sense to you? I don't know how else to explain it. Thanks.

The "Install the asspain toolbar" option is always checked by default, and should be unchecked as you go through h the installation process....

I can't why it says your Favorites are questionable websites but the favorites bar does look like a yellow star and green arrow.

See if you can get the menu in my picture and select to have Menu bar showing and Favorites bar unticked. Then go into Favorites from the File-Edit-View-Favorites selection and rightclick any sites you want to delete and select delete.

and a little cog/gear icon. it is not on a toolbar. it is above the toolbar right below the icons that minimize the screen and the little x that closes down all windows and takes me to my desktop.

and I don't understand the rest of what you said ... that second paragraph is not making sense to me. Sorry.

You must have inadvertently toggled it to show previously.

You can go to the now visible Favorites link and click on it then under the entry Favorites Bar let it expand and you can right click and delete any of those sites you don't want there.

That, combined with Add/Remove Programs in Windows (Programs and Features in Windows 8.1), will remove just about anything.

The last resort is to go looking at your C: drive (the default drive for Windows) and see if anything weird/unwanted has been installed on your hard drive. Sometimes...note I said sometimes...you can just delete the damn software and be done with it. Look first at your C:\Program Files folder or C:\Program Files (x86). You also have to go to your User folder on the C: drive to find unwanted stuff (C:\Users\YourUserNameInWindows\). When you go searching the C: drive, it helps a ton to unhide folders. However...don't go crazy deleting files. You will royally f***k up Windows if you do.

I know this is all terribly geeky/boring but it will save you many headaches in the future. Also....as much as humanly possible, pay attention when installing software that you don't accidentally install adware/crapware/bloatware that some company wants you to install. Normally during installation you get a dialog that gives you the right to NOT install the crap.

I don't mean to sound insensitive, just trying to give good advice Good luck.

eta: It's good you were just dealing with a built-in feature of IE.
