Anyone here know what codes can be used to
edit your signature line? Is it HTML; CSS; or BB Codes?
Thanks.

(11,461 posts)much appreciated.
I forgot about this thread which was posted during the time DU became DU3.
Hutzpa
(11,461 posts)that I've forgotten how to do the most simplest of task.
I have tried scanning that link but could not find what I'm looking for which is to
post scrolling text inside my sig line.
Most of the changes I made can be seen in my profile, but I notice the codes are
displayed whenever I post on a thread.

(11,461 posts)What tag or codes can you use to edit your sig line?
ChromeFoundry
(3,270 posts)but for the most part you can use most of the supported BB codes with inline CSS. I've found that it doesn't like extended characters which can be used in a Post Body. Unfortunately, I think it will be a lot of trial an error if you are trying to do something very unique. I doubt that ELad is going to post the exact list of rules on how he is stripping out text submissions to any of the fields...seems to be a bit of a security risk.
If you ask specific, "How do I do <blank>," I'm sure someone could help you out.
Sorry this doesn't answer your original question.
Hutzpa
(11,461 posts)which worked as I mention above, but I can only see the result within my
profile and not public.
I notice my public threads will display the codes as well as the message.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks

(8,543 posts)Although it should be noted that the DU3 software will escape quotes in your text to html entities, so you need to either use single-quotes (which seem to work fine in major browser) or jam everything together without spaces after the style= in the tag.
To do inline stuff, you can use a font tag (e.g. some text ).
To use an element with the default DU3 signature color and font size, use a [p] with post-sig as the class (e.g. [p class='post-sig' style='text-align:center;border-top:1px solid #d8d8d8;']some text[/p] ).
To override the default DU3 styles with a block element, use a div element (e.g. [div style=font-variant:small-caps;]some text[/div] ).
Also keep in mind that there is a 400 character limit, so you can't go to crazy with the code and still have room for content.

(11,461 posts)can you provide a link for this inline CSS?

(8,543 posts)There are way too many possibilities of what can be done with inline CSS to have some list to refer to when trying to format things on DU. Obviously with inline CSS you can't do anything that would require selectors in a style sheet - just basic declarations within a style attribute. W3schools is a good resource to learn about CSS and also has useful reference pages (see list of properties in left-hand column) to look things up if you have forgotten them (or are trying to do something new).
In my previous reply, I gave a few examples of inline CSS code that will work here - the text in dark blue in the parentheses beginning with e.g. can be copied into a signature and will actually do something - not something useful since they are just examples of how to introduce inline CSS into elements and not really meant to illustrate what CSS to use for specific formatting. As I said, the possibilities are far to numerous to outline (I suppose it could be done, but it's certainly not worth the time and/or effort it would require). There are plenty of online resources for learning CSS for anyone wanting to figure out how to do it.
As ChromeFoundry mentioned above, if you can't quite get something to work right then it might be best if you describe what you are trying to accomplish to see if someone here has some ideas. Most inline CSS should work here, but not all of it will - it usually takes some trial and error to achieve the desired result (you can usually test the basic code with the preview function of a reply so you don't have to constantly update your signature and reload a post). One nice thing about DU3 is you can see the code people are using in their signatures on their profile page - so if you see something you like in someone's signature, you can easily imitate what they are doing.
Hutzpa
(11,461 posts)having some sort of idea, just that I wasn't sure or have forgotten about the new format
on DU3 since I have not logged on for awhile, but I do get it, now that I know you can
use CSS with unlimited possibilities which is what I had in mind, I will now go ahead
and take a look at the link you provided.
Appreciate your help once again.
