Just a couple of questions if you could help.

Do too many bookmarks slow down your computer? I have a lot of them and wonder if this is a bad thing. Most of the bookmarks are for reference.

Also, for some time I have been having trouble with my PSC (HP F4120). Cannot seem to get it to scan and now when I print, the print is so small that I can hardly read it. I tried to update the drivers and messed up the whole thing. I give up on that option. I can buy a new PSC now for about $30.00. Would a new PSC cure my problems? HP has a new household model Deskjet 2514 that would suit my needs. The reviews are good. I don't need speed, just function.

If I buy a new PSC, will the scan function work as it should?
Also, the tiny print in MS word...is that a printer or computer problem?
I have tried to figure this out and have gone to several web sites and find either no answer or something that I know I will mess up. Actually, I tried and did mess it up.
I envy those of you to whom computers are as easy as breathing. Just this old lady talking. I remember when the first calculator came out. 4 functions, +,-,x'and divide. $119.00. Boy how things have changed.

Run Windows XP, sp3
Mozilla browser.

I have asked for help before and I thank you all. I can't seem to get this together and a repair tech is out of the question right now.

I don't have the model you have, but my HP Lasejet has settings dealing with font pitch that can make print smaller or larger. My experience with HP printers has been that those machine hardware settings can have as much effect on the output as the software settings at the PC end. If you haven't tried those, give it a try. If you have, and you're pretty sure you have exhausted all other options, dump the thing in the nearest landfill, and go get a new printer.

No, feel free to have as many bookmarks as you please.

I cannot tell you exactly what to do with the hp. I can however, tell you that different brands of printers can be much easier to work with. Kodak printers are known for their very cheap ink, something like 10 bucks for a refill.

Also, the tiny print in MS word...is that a printer or computer problem?

Is the print tiny on the computer screen, or only when you print?

Don't get discouraged! Even the best computer scientists had to start at the beginning. Computers are the most complex devices this world has ever seen!!

If you've got the patience and the will to learn, you will be able to fix anything.

3. Printers and computers hate each other

Computers would like printers to die in a fire and printers think computers are snobby elitists. Many attempts have been made to find a lasting peace between the two but communications break down on a regular basis.

In other words, if you have the installation software for your PSC, re-install. That should set things to rights.

As for the font size, it could be that you've somehow changed the font size in word. Look up at the icon toolbar. The should be boxes that denote the style font (by default Times New Roman) and the font size. Standard, default font size is 12.

And as said above, you can have all the bookmarks you want.

If your computer is running slow, then download/install and run the free version of CCleaner: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

Print size back to normal.

As the the scan function of my PSC, I am scared to death of trying anything.
I am not comfortable trying to update drivers on the PSC. I never seem to do the right thing, or understand some of the commands. This old lady is chicken! Maybe in a few days I'll get enough courage to un-install and re-install the thing. Maybe that will work. It used to be fine but something happened somewhere.(operator error, I'm sure)

Thanks all for your help. At least I can print now.

should I disconnect everything and start the process as if this was a new machine. I have always wondered about the advice regarding reinstall. Never saw anything about uninstalling the old machine first.

( cringe as I type this but who else can I turn to but DU. Google does not seem to have an answer I can find without going thru about 10,000 entries.

Thanks

For (re)installation, unplug it from the computer before you begin the process. Most installation disks/programs (you do have the installation disk/program, don't you?) tell you when it's safe to plug your printer/scanner into your computer. Also keep the printer/scanner plugged into the wall during both (natch).
