Adobe Flash Player pop up - ONLY on DU Site

Both my wife's and daughter's computers receive an Adobe Flash Player popup from Adobe stating the computer flash is out of date and I need to down load the player from Adobe. BOTH computers have the latest Adobe Flash player. Even if I allow the download to happen and install the new flash player. The popup occurs again when going to DU. Virus is up to date AND NONE show on scans.

Thoughts?

What product/s did you use to scan with? Have you tried uninstalling ALL versions of Flash and reinstalling? What browser are you using?

There are 2 Flash Players, one for IE which is Flash Player 11 ActiveX and the other is for other browsers Firefox ect. Flash Player 11 Plugin.

You might try scanning with malwarebytes found at www.malwarebytes.org There was an issue with fake Adobe Flash updates so you might want to scan with other things other than Avast. I use Avast as well but it might not find all malware. It doesn't seem likely that two laptops would have the same malware but you never know.

If you open Avast interface and go to Tools and the try the software updater does it tell you that Flash needs to be updated? I'm just asking out of curiosity. This can be tried on Firefox also under Add-ons and then Plugins.

Disable Java, if you need it for something like checking a bank balance then turn it on and then off as soon as you are done. Java is evil.

Clear out your Temps files.

You can change the update settings for Flash below.

Find any Youtube video and right click on it.
Left click "Global Settings"
That will open Flash Player Settings Manager
Choose the Advanced tab
Left click "Change Update Settings"
Click on "Never Check for Updates"
Close box

The Software Updater in Avast can also be set to ignore updates.

When it pops up, there is a box in the middle left side where you can choose NOT to have Adobe warn you that what you have is out of date. I was plagued with this also and spent a lot of time trying various remedies, just check the right response and it will go away. Also under "Tools" , deselect "active x filtering", might help.

3. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM

I just C&P'd this senerio from another thread, but I have the same friggin problem. I said ok to the updates THREE TIMES! And it still comes back.

Interesting the say the least.

I will follow the suggestions. But I don't get a box to check with your mentioned options. It only asks my permission(Vista) to open Adobe Flash Add-On.

I asked this question in another thread. I did not get response. So perhaps I was in wrong place.

The past few days when I jump on here, I continusly am prompted to update my Flash 11 software. In the begining I did--three times. I was wondering is this another update to the first one?

So I just uninstalled flash, and reinstalled it.

Its still doing it. I'm on Vista so you can imagine that I'm being asked for my permission to install this software--if you're familar with Vista.

What should I do? Its becoming really annoying. It only does it here on DU.

I believe MSNBC prompted me to do it there. Nothing since. Just DU.

Are there any ideas from the PC doctors in the house?

I can only tell you that disabling Active X and checking that little box that asks (as I recall it) for You to be promoted to install Flash, Let Adobe install automatically, or Never install Flash on this site.

I checked Never install Flash and haven't had a problem since.

Again, it was a little box INSIDE the box to the left of message.

. . . on every single page, but only at work. (Windows 7, Internet Explorer because I'm not allowed to have anything else.)

I seem to have solved it by disabling Flash in my browser altogether. (I despise Flash, so that's not much hardship.)

7. Do we even really need Flash?

Dec 2013

My computer frequently freezes then I get a message saying the Flash plugin is not responding. I started looking for info and found this site, http://occupyflash.org/ , where they say this:

Flash Player is dead. Its time has passed. It's buggy. It crashes a lot. It requires constant security updates. It doesn't work on most mobile devices. It's a fossil, left over from the era of closed standards and unilateral corporate control of web technology. Websites that rely on Flash present a completely inconsistent (and often unusable) experience for fast-growing percentage of the users who don't use a desktop browser. It introduces some scary security and privacy issues by way of Flash cookies.

Flash makes the web less accessible. At this point, it's holding back the web.

So, I've been thinking about uninstalling it and see how it goes. Anyone else tried this?

It is the Active X NOT being disabled on the laptops. This work laptop I am on now HAS Active X disabled, and it DOES NOT get the Adobe popup on DU.

I don't use IE and so I tried it today but was unable to have an issue with Flash. So I marked the ActiveX and then I had issues. So packman is correct.
