Newest Safari update seems to have a glitch

I am not seeing anything in my status bar. I have a slow connection and really like to see that things are indeed downloading. Now, my address bar will clear, but I can't tell that the page is still loading. Looked in preferences and don't see a way to fix this.

Has anyone had this experience or know of a way to correct it?

I am, and my Safari progress bar shows. I just checked, and I'm up to date.

I will say, though, that since my last updates, all my machines seem to be running slower.
