Anyone upgraded to Maverick yet?

Just saw the upgrade link in the App store and haven't done it as I'm always leery of first day out of the gate OS upgrades.

1. Probably tomorrow. I'll download the full updater, wipe my drive, and install from scratch.

After creating a bootable backup, of course.

I knew Mavericks would be free. I should have taken bets.

3. I'm stuck at Snow Leopard

Can't run CS4 on anything newer. Can't afford to upgrade Adobe, and I refuse to "rent" the newer versions.

7. I've got CS4 running on Mountain Lion with no problems.

Though it won't handle Canon RAW files from a 70D without using DNG converter.


Added on edit - Just checked the Adobe site and one person is running CS4 Bridge and Photoshop and Maverick with no problems.

Adobe says:

Adobe and Apple have worked closely together to test Adobe® Creative Cloud applications and Adobe Creative Suite 6 applications for reliability, performance and user experience when installed on Intel® based systems running Mac OS X Mavericks. (v10.9). All Adobe CC and CS6 products are compatible, but a few products require updates to the latest builds to work properly (notably After Effects).

Adobe Photoshop® CS5, CS4 and CS3 were also tested with Mac OS X Mavericks and there are currently no major issues known.

Photoshop was no problem. Illustrator was iffy and it was reported that InDesign was not compatible at all. Referring to Mountain Lion. I use all three. Plus Bridge on a regular basis. Gotta have them work.

24. But I talked to Adobe and they told me that my

CS5 Ext. would not work with Maverick. They told me I would have to pay $400 if I wanted the Adobe upgrade to be compatible with Maverick or drop down to the regular Photoshop at $199.
I don't know what to do. I cannot afford to loose my Photoshop. Am running Snow Lep now. HELP!!!!!!!!

i think i will wait a while. i do have cs6, but i was planning to keep 5 around for a while.

last time i jumped on a new os, i got nothing much and lost hundred of dollars in programs. fortunately, they were mostly training programs, and i could run them on another machine.

this is why macs are fast and the aca website is sow, tho. apple has no problem lopping off legacy code.
and they love to stick it to adobe, i am sure.

13. I run InDesign CS4, Illustrator CS3 and Photoshop CS3 on Mavericks. No problems.

Well...InDesign won't fucking print to a laser printer no matter what I try (export to PDF and print from there, works great) but everything else works fine.

4. I never like

upgrading on the first day or even the first week. Bound to be a few glitches here and there. Hopefully not, but don't want to take that chance. I'm really happy that the iLife suite will now be free. That's super good news!

5. So far, so good.

I keep a regular backup and can start up on one of several hard drives so no problem.

Love the new Maps app.

6. I had no problems downloading it at 8:00 last night

So far, nothing's gone horribly wrong either...but I won't be plugging in my Time Machine disk for a bit, better safe than sorry.

It's much faster launching apps, and the scrolling is a bit smoother, but that's all I've noticed as of yet. Haven't unplugged so I can't say anything about battery life. Seems like more of a feature-heavy release with some (very nice) underhood tweaks as opposed to a full engine-swap like Snow Leopard.

I hope it works better than the download/install process. On a new out of the box machine on Thursday starting at 11am, we are still in process at 5:39am Friday morning.

I would plan for a very, very, very long day with the computer.

20. I went ahead and DL it

and it took maybe an hour, max. Sherman, something was def wrong if it took that long. Haven't run into any glitches yet, though I'm sure something will pop up somewhere along the line.

Absolutely no problems…with anything.

When I read the community discussions and see the issues people are distraught about, I can't help but think that combinations of individual tweaks to their systems have brought this on. Something is bound to happen.

I've got my share of modifications I've become accustomed to, but still have had not one problem arise from the upgrade.

14. Tags are unfortunate

They did away with the ability to highlight an entire file or folder name with color ("label&quot and replaced it with colored dots ("tags&quot . The tags are just colored dots, not nearly as visible or useful for me. So far I have installed Mavericks on my least used computer and, just because of this one point, won't install it on other computers yet.

I understand that tags are a step forward in that a file or folder can have multiple tags. Yeahokayfine. How about giving us a choice to use them or labels? Maybe a choice to allow a single RSG to appear visually as labels did?

I used labels so extensively that thus is a real issue for me.

Total downgrade. Symantec GreatWorks from 1992 had a better interface.

Did my once a year, new OS clean install.

Spent a while moving files and apps back on. Updating settings.

So far, very smooth.

As I stated earlier though - DO NOT UPGRADE Pages, Numbers, Keynote or iMovie if you use them. The updates will break iWorks 09 and mess up any documents you've created with it.

Go to "App Store" in System Preferences and uncheck "Install app updates" automatically. When Mavericks came in those are, I believe, checked by default.

29. Pages and Numbers 4.3 (iWorks 09) works with Maverick

So does iMovie and Keynote.

The new version, or downgrade, work great on IOS and mobile devices but they lost hundreds of features with the new version.

Again, get Maverick. Turn OFF automatic updates and do not "upgrade" those three applications. There is a 30+ page thread on the Apple Discussion Board about how awful the new versions are.
