Question about ipad

I just purchased an ipad (latest version) for a family member, mostly so we could stay in touch via Facetime during the pandemic. (I also have the latest version ipad.) My family member is elderly and needs a lot of help with the thing, so I often spend hours on the phone with her, trying to guide her through the various functions, etc. on her ipad. It's a frustrating process.

A few months ago I contacted Apple tech support on a different matter. While on the phone with the tech support guy, he asked permission to view my screen so he could see it on his device, while simultaneously pointing out areas on my screen by manipulating a cursor that appeared on my ipad. I believe he called it "mirroring," but I may be wrong.

It made the entire tech support experience much easier when he could see my ipad screen and use a cursor to point out specific things on my device. Normally, I would sit next to my family member and point out the necessary functions on her ipad in person, but over the phone, without actually seeing her screen, it's close to impossible. I'd like to do the same "mirroring" thing with my family member.

Question: Is there some app that would permit me to do the same mirroring function while trying to help her over the phone?

IF you can get your family member to Zoom, you can have her show screen. You won't have the cursor function, but it may reduce your phone time. I am in a group of people who meet via Zoom and some of them are quite techno-challenged, but they got there.

Good luck! You're doing your good deeds!

But how about YouTube? Record a quick video on most asked questions upload to YouTube and send the link to them. Then they can play it over and over till they gets down pat.
Gotta have a YouTube account but it’s free.

Not many folks know that remote screen viewing/control is already a feature of the Messages app on MacOS. And while that doesn't directly help an iPad user, if they also have a Mac, you can share an iOS screen if it's hooked up with a lightning cable! Here's some info on how to do it: How to remotely help someone fix their Apple device

Google appears to point to Sharing screen with TeamViewer to do this natively without a Mac near the iPad. I've not used it, but it seems like it might be worth checking out.
