If on a mac just fiddle with the dock icon.

I searched for 'how to restore an app on the home screen ios' on DuckDuckGo first link looks like it covers topic.

As soon as I figure something out, Apple changes things.

I completely lost an app on the iphone, and was going bonkers trying to find it.

Turns out that the developer renamed it!

But most of my "lost" apps turn up in folders. If you (OP) are not familiar with folders, they are a great way to reduce clutter.

Put your most-used apps "up front" and put the others you rarely use in folders (drag one on top of another to create a folder. You can rename it from whatever Apple defaults it to). Then use search to find rarely used items.

Works for me. Even in the folders, if they are labeled "calc" or "astro" they make things real easy to find.

With macs, agree, the dock rules. You can also use spotlight search to find an app, launchpad, or Quicksilver or Alfred ( third party apps. I use Quicksilver) to launch an app. My dock is crowded. I rarely use it any more, except to drag a file onto an app icon.Otherwise, I use the default app for that file type (you can change it) or right-click or control-click on a file and "Open With ->&quot

Until Apple changes things again.

HTH

Good luck
