When uploading video to YouTube, is AVI or MP4 the better choice?

I'm about to (try to) start uploading videos to YouTube. But which format is better? Which one does YouTube work best with? Which one eats up more memory? Are there pros and cons I gotta weigh?

1. I've always preferred MP4

I haven't posted to YouTube in years, but MP4 always seemed to me to be more YouTube friendly than AVI.

According to this page on Video-Pedia, YouTube says that MP4 is better. There are some other good Youtube tips on the page.

2. A small matter to consider is that mp4 is a more universal format

Avi is very widely used, but mp4 is guaranteed to have a good codec on literally any player/device on the planet

3. Both are good, but MP4 is better

YouTube states that the best format for YouTube to use is MP4 (standard, HD and Ultra HD 4K quality). Check the YouTube video specs here.

4. I have a YouTube Channel

..from reading the text on YT and from some experience I found that MP4's is required and depending on your set-up will be faster, but doesn't mean you can't use your preference. When setting up your video editor/player you should get a list. Sometimes, uploading times will be determined by the Internet, and sometimes by resolution. Experiment!
