2020 CO US Senate Election- Diana DeGette-D

How come the CO Democratic Establishment never asked CO 1cd US Representative Diana DeGette-D to run for the US Senate?
DeGette-D has a lot of experience to become US Senator. She served more that 20 years in the US House of Representatives, She is a less controversial moderate to liberal Democrat and will become the 1st female US Senator from CO. DeGette could have been appointed to the US Senate in 2009 when Salazar resigned to become Interior Secretary.
CO Democratic Establishment could have asked current CO US Representative DeGette-D or former CO US Representative Betsy Markey-D to run instead of Hickenlooper. Markey-D has served in the US House of Representatives for 1 term representing CO-4 for 1 term. CO 4 is a Republican favorable District. Markey has ran for statewide office in 2014- CO Treasurer against GOP incumbent Walker Stapleton losing be a less than 5 percent margin in the 2014 Republican wave.
