Leahy (D-VT) can become the longest serving member of the US Congress if he seeks re-election.

Leahy(D-VT) is completing his 8th US Senate term by 2023. He will be 82 years old when he seeks re-election in 2022. Leahy is younger than US Representative Don Young(AK),and US Senators Feinstein(CA),Grassley(IA),and Inhofe(OK). Leahy is likely to run for re-election in 2022. Between 2023 to 2029, Young(AK),Feinstein(CA),Grassley(IA) and Inhofe(OK) will be out of the US Senate because they will be over 90 years old. Leahy will be 88 years old by 2028/2029, when he completes his 9th US Senate term,starts his 10th term.

We already have enough risk with other elderlies. Surely, Vermont has some good Democrats who don't require Depends.

Do you think Sanders and Leahy should retire during the next 2 to 3 years?
If either Leahy or Sanders decide to retire next year, they will replaced by Attorney General TJ Donovan who won 3 statewide elections as VT Attorney General by a 40 percent margin. Donovan is more likely to run for the US Senate than Governor against Phil Scott. Another Democrat that can be the next US Senator from VT is Lt Governor Molly Gray.
