1. "What's the Matter With Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America (2004)
is a book by American journalist and historian Thomas Frank, which explores the rise of populist anti-elitist conservatism in the United States, centering on the experience of Kansas, Frank's native state. In the late 19th century, says Frank, Kansas was known as a hotbed of the left-wing Populist movement, but in recent decades, it has become overwhelmingly conservative."
Great read. Helps explain why places like Kansas have shifted so far to the right. |

2. Laura Kelly a Democrat became Gov.in 2018, Pat Roberts a Republican left the US Sen. in 2021.
If Roberts had left office in 2020, Kelly would have appointed a Democrat to Roberts US Senate seat.

3. That book came out nearly 20 years ago, in 2004.
Since it came out Kansas has become vastly more right wing. I was living in Kansas then, in the reasonably blue part of the state. I moved to New Mexico in 2008 and am very glad to be here, especially in the very blue northern part.

5. Sebellius was Governor of KS. I wished Obama picked someone else as HHS Secretary.
Sebellius and Brownback could have switched jobs.
