What kind of Democrat was Jerry Costello-IL-12CD?

Costello represented IL-12CD for over 20 years (1993 to 2013) Right after Costello retired, IL-12 became a
R +9 District it is currently represented by Mike Bost-R. The new IL-12 is an R+22 district.

Was Costello-D a Joe Manchin or Sherrod Brown type Democrat?

Old school urban democrat. Pro union (he was old school Catholic pro choice) transportation / Transit Democrat. A jobs guy.

The district changed under redistricting which is why he left congress.
