Why did the Moderate White voters and Conservative Black voters in FL elected DeSantis instead of
Andrew Gillum?
The 2018 Democratic Gubernatorial Nominee for FL who happens to be black.

1. Damned if I know, my dear nkpolitisc1212!
I wasn't paying a lot of attention.
And your question is a very good one. I hope someone who does have a clue will come along and tell us! |

2. I think racism and the fear of a progressive candidate explain why moderate whites voted red.
I am guessing opposition to a progressive candidate is why conservative black voters went red.

3. Gillum was painted from the beginning of his campaign as a socialist
I don't know if that's the reason, but I suspect it might be. I thought Gwen Graham might have won.

4. What was the precentage of Black voters who went red?
Also the percentage of Latino voters and Asian American voters who went red?
It's important to give those numbers because of the way you phrased your post...making it seem like Black voters were a huge part of that red result. I'm betting that it was a small minority of Black voters and conversely majority of Latino voters afraid of the socialism bogeyman the Gillum was painted as. |

5. "Democratic Socialism" scared Hispanic voters and many others.
Democrats scare middle class voters of all types but when most hear about “socialism” they think Maduro, Ortega or Castro and not Denmark. Heck, Denmark had to come out and say they were capitalist.

7. Gwen Graham and Andrew Gillum should have ran as Governor /Lt Governor.
It would have been like the Hillary Clinton/Barack Obama ticket of FL except Gwen Graham is Bob Graham’s daughter not wife.
