For what it's worth, I spent ten days in ICU a few years ago. I have no memory of it, but on some level I was aware of loved ones nearby; doctors later told me that every time family members spoke in my vicinity, my 'numbers' improved. Believe that he knows you are there!

I've had some sleep and can make some sense. I want you all to know that I've read your posts when I've had bad moments. They've lifted me up. And I've read them to my son when I've run out of things to say to him. Your words are so much better than mine, especially when I'm feeling sorry for him and for me and my husband and our other son who's so far away.

You've been giving all of us hope and strength and serenity. And the calm I need, especially, to get things done, to make plans and decisions to ensure he gets better. 100% is the goal. I will move heaven and earth to get him there.

Forgive me if my moods zing around all over the place. I don't know how the hell to be.

132. He's breathing on his own now.

Sometimes he thinks he's in a 7-Eleven.
Other times he knows he's in the hospital.
At those times he tries to pull out all the IVs so he can leave.
He asked for a phone book to look up malpractice attorneys because they won't let him leave.
He thinks it's January 2012 and that he's missing law school.
But now he's in the 7-Eleven again.

Everything he says is in a whisper because of having been intubated. He can't quite feed himself. Keeps missing his mouth. But he's trying. He knows who we are. But he thinks he knows his nurse from before.

He has pneumonia and C. dif. so he's got all kinds of IV antibiotics going. All in all, things are looking up. He's still in ICU and will be for a while. But the doctors say he'll pull through. That's what we needed to hear. After this it'll be just getting him back to functioning at his full capacity.

Your prayers and good vibes worked. You got him and us through the worst of it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
