Early Education and Care Prioritized in President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2015 Budget Proposal

On Tuesday, President Obama released his fiscal year 2015 budget proposal, calling once again for significant new and ongoing investments in high-quality early education and care. The proposal closely mirrored his 2014 budget proposal for preschool. [Congress did not fund that proposal in full, but did include funding increases for early education in the final FY14 budget].

The one thing I have noticed is that although he is the most powerful man in the world
he almost always bends over or kneels to look a child in the face. You can not fake
being nice.

Her arms didn't work so well and she could not stand so the President kneeled down and reached out
to her to hold her hand/ I can understand being from a different point of view but god damn all those bastards
who talk all that crap about Obama because in the end he is really a nice man.

President Barack Obama greets Haley Klepper in the East Room of the White House, July 18, 2012, during a ceremony for the 2012 NCAA Women’s Basketball Champion Baylor Bears. The President mentioned Haley during his remarks. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

<Among those on hand for the event was Haley Klepper -- a ten year old girl from Waco, Texas with a rare disorder -- who through the course of the season became an unofficial part of the Baylor team.

President Obama made a point to pause and acknowledge Haley, saying: "[When] the team found out about Haley and all the stuff that she goes through every day, and she’s such a brave little girl, they immediately took her under their wing. So she has her own spot reserved in the Baylor locker room, and -- she’s a pretty big fan.">

Preschool For All: President Obama’s Pipe Dream or Possibility?

ATLANTA - President Obama’s goal of guaranteed preschool education for every American 4-year-old is arguably the boldest proposal of his second term — a sweeping expansion of the nation’s taxpayer-funded public school system, bigger than anything in a generation.

It would also be expensive — by one estimate, costing $10.5 billion a year. In Georgia, where universal pre-K access is already the goal, officials put the annual cost at $10,000 per child.

But today Obama argued here that a sea change in expert thinking about pre-primary education shows that the investment is worthwhile and overdue, promising social and economic benefits for years to come.

“This is not babysitting,” Obama said at an event at a suburban recreation center to promote his plan.

It's about children learning to interact with others. It will help to broaden their awareness and help build their self esteem. It will help them prepare for school. In the end it will help them prepare for their future.

which of their kids had preschool. My son was an only, so I put him in preschool for socialization as much as anything else. I don't remember exactly when, but it was first grade or earlier when a little girl got off the bus at his stop, and he brought her to me and announced that they were going to get married. I said fine, welcomed her to the family, and wondered if maybe we should let her parents know? Got her home safely, but they didn't want to part. Puppy love is a great gift to be cherished, not laughed about. I get furious with so-called adults who ridicule kids. That's why I can't stand Jimmy Kimmel and his Halloween prank. Imagine lying to a child and laughing when they cry - it's evil.

I had routine surgery 3 weeks ago and then developed pain & abnormal labs, so they readmitted me for a bunch of tests to figure out why. Will hopefully be home tomorrow. Meanwhile, love my Nook.
