Using racial dog whistles to attack the president from the left...

It's remarkable how this is condoned. Just because the hits come from the left doesn't make it any less racist.

Calling the President a used car salesman is a typical right-wing attack point. It's also racist.

Yet it's allowed. So fucking disgusting.

and no one seems particularly bothered. Assange is a libertarian wingnut? Not a problem. Greenwald is a former pornographer and disbarred neo-Nazi defender? Meh. Snowball is a raging Paulbot and neocon loyalist? Manning admits he was motivated by a desire to bring down Hillary? Pfft, where's the beef. As long as they righteously rant against whichever Dem is at the top of the ticket they get their automatic hundred recs.

Speaking of which . . .

I saw it here, and it shocked me. I saw it at the big rallies in NYC (could read in DU about who was there) and DC (where I went in person) but by then I had had an educational talk with my husband, who is Jewish and was raised in NYC and whose life experiences are different than mine. He said that particular strain of Lefties are indeed Anti-Semitic, sometimes blatant and sometimes subtle.

Let's just say I'm not impressed by people who call themselves Leftists or Progressives and manage to be racist and/or anti-Semitic at the same time. I don't always catch it if it's subtle, at least at first, but I get there in the end.

It disgusts me to hear him called nasty names. I don't care how disappointed someone may be with some of his actions, he's our President, and he has done some great things in his time in office.

I do not, however, think that the name represented here was meant to be racist. It was just very juvenile and insulting.

Just two pictures.

And when I look at who has engaged in this behavior - lets just say at 42 years of age I'm not easily swayed, there is no solidarity and I will hold my nose and vote for their "guy' - but I see some of his most rabid supporters for what they are. Which men's they'll throw my civil rights and liberties under the bus for their minimum wage. Fuck that shit.

I'm in my mid 50's. For over 25 years I've lived in a rural community in NC. I have family on my father's side in Georgia that are KKK members; one of the many reasons I stay as far away from them as possible! And I have NEVER heard the term "used car salesman" used as a racist dog whistle, and I've heard pretty much every dog whistle there is. It's a racial and gender neutral term for a person who will sell you a piece of crap. I do not dismiss your anger at the DU'er who posted the OP using it, and I don't defend it, it is a degrading term. But it's not in and of itself racist.

My experience says no, but if you could explain how "used car salesman" is racist or even provide some sort of corroborating evidence to support the claim, that would be helpful.

People who take offense to criticism of the president's policies by screaming 'racist' have completely worn out the trope.

The pictures in the OP are unflattering and insensitive -- all presidents are fair game for that -- but are not racist. if he had a bone through his nose or were eating fried chicken then I would agree that they are racist. But let's stop yelling racism every time somebody says something or posts a picture that doesn't exalt our Democratic president.

The ACA does not solve everything, but it does do a lot of good. The whole used car thing did not apply. When I went to get my policy, they had me make sure my doctor was in the network first, so I could consider a different plan if not. Will Pitt had some problem of that type, and the ACA was likely not to blame or there was some wrinkle to be ironed out.

One weakness of the ACA is when your income is near the medicaid borderline, medicaid will accept you provisionally without telling you and if you make too much, you can turn to the ACA but have to wait a month and end up not covered for a month. I had that happen and did not go into fits of rage. I mean, everything has to be ironed out over time. That's why the BS about the web site was ridiculous. I've dealt with many a government bureaucracy and things happen all the time. No system is perfect.

He expected perfection and blamed it all on the President when Lieberman and the rest of the crew had a lot to do with it. But as it was, even so, his wife's problem was eventually solved. So he has no excuse continuing that meme now.

The TPP thing IMO is simply being used by some as a wedge issue. They know it is not big deal and there is no way any US President or Congress would do the things they claim the TPP will do. Some of the visions of doom and gloom are ridiculous. But they know they can confuse people with it.

Picking up right wing memes and caricatures doesn't have a racist origin?

Even here, comparing President Obama to an impeachable unindicted co-conspirator who resigned in disgrace carries no self-censorship?

Being respectful and loyal to our Democratic president who has been in a battle royale with the Republicans for 6 1/2 years, and was burdened with saving the world from financial collapse on his first day in office, and all the unimaginable slights and impugning his character relentlessly right here on a Democratic website? A safe haven even?

Jesus wept!

house is divided.

The threads that attack Obama as if mass amnesia has set in should be considered a violation of the entire site's TOS.

When and how and why did a group "supporting the President and his policies" become a "safe haven" from fellow Democrats?

Or any of the fellow Democrats DU groups of Sanders and Warren, both of whom which I also fully support....love is not a one person show.

Maybe the site needs a 'Democratic Party Truth and Reconciliation Group'.
