So far the President has handled the re-election start with skill.

He is giving them all the rope to act crazy, but when they start to try and tag him as weak, like they did Kerry, he unloaded on them with the "check with bin Laden" line. They could also ask Ghaddafi as well.

I, for one, don't think that any of these clowns are going to be the nominee.

Here is where I make the case for a brokered convention.

1) Romney is not going to be the nominee.

Its not just that he has hit a ceiling, anyone who was going to be for Romney has already signed on. Its that even those that support him don't have a deep affection for him.

Romney went to Utah to boost Bennett's nomination. Bennett doesn't even get on the ballot and the Republicans IN UTAH BOOED ROMNEY ROUNDLY. If the Mormons in Utah boo him who in the party loves him? No one.

2) Gingrich

This is the guy who said that Social Security should "wither and die"

Let the Republicans race to be the stupidest, act Presidential and prepare for a new candidate at the convention.

1. Are you going to be doing House/Senate analysis later on?

I know it's a bit early yet and the primaries / Republican nominee are more interesting, but I really liked it when you do it grantcart.

2. Maybe Senate later on

Coming next will be a thread on Swing States

One of the cool things about DU3 is that you can do those analytical threads and then go back and update them with an edit and not have to redo the entire post.

3. I say it's Jeb or Christie at the convention

If Romney doesn't have it locked up, and I don't think he will, no way the powers that be allow these clowns to be the nominee. No way.

6. No way will it be Jeb or Christie. They are being saved for 2016.

I've said it before, but the Republicans want a regular, bland candidate who won't rock the boat or do anything stupid.

The GOP is setting its sights on 2016. If someone from crazy town is nominated, they may not only blow this election, but do enough damage to hurt the Republicans in the 2014 midterms and 2016 presidential as well.

8. Exactly, which is why the GOP powers that be want Mitt.

He's not batshit insane like the rest of them, and he's flip-flopped enough to pretty much be unelectable (if Dems and the Obama campaign do their job), but he's not a controversial face for the Republican Party.

They want to stay the course. They want to keep having power in Congress in order to further delay true economic progress and then blame Democrats in 2016 for doing nothing. Mitt gives them the best shot at doing that. At that point, they'll pull out their dream candidate in either Jeb Bush or Chris Christie in order to beat the Democratic candidate in 2016.

If Newt was the nominee, he'd be so controversial, so unlikable, so proto-typical asshole Republican, that the GOP would suffer monumental setbacks in 2012 and likely keep them out of power, in Congress or in the White House, for possibly a decade. 2012 would be for Democrats what 1984 was for Republicans.

12. I know! This will be way better than

me anxiously waiting for Diablo 3 to hit the shelves. The two releases (Obama will be releasing the hounds) might be happening at the same time. Double yum.

It will be like The Greatest Show on Earth.

15. Okay I admit it.

I had to ask my son what Diablo 3 was. LOL.

I am amazed reading about the shadow campaign Pres O is running alongside the GOP freakshow and I'm not surprised to read he's the most organized and has the most headquarters open than the aggregate of the GOP candidates, state by state. The O campaign is gearing up for a smackdown supreme and I admit I'm really excited for it to commence.
