'Surprise!' Prince Harry has White House tea with Michelle Obama

On the first day of his week-long American tour, Prince Harry made a most charming appearance at a Mother’s Day tea hosted by first lady Michelle Obama.

Looking dapper in a dark suit and tie, Harry surprised the guests of the White House event on Thursday afternoon. He mingled with children backstage as they assembled gift bags for their mothers, then emerged in a formal dining area before the moms themselves, who cheered and gasped at his presence
.
Harry’s final stop during his current tour will be in Greenwich, Conn., to play in a polo match. The proceeds will benefit the prince’s Sentebale charity that helps African children in need.

Michelle Obama honors military mothers, wives with Prince Harry at afternoon tea

You all never complain, never complain, you just keep moving it along, getting it done, and I hope that you know how much this country appreciates you,” she said.

She also called her mother, Marian Robinson, “my rock” and thanked her for teaching her patience.

Children accompanying their moms slipped into the State Dining Room to gather tulip and rose bouquets, baked vegetable chips and edible dough jewelry to present to their mothers.

The families dined in the East Room on light fare, including smoked salmon sandwiches, vegetable spring wraps, corn madeleines, mini cupcakes, bonbons and chamomile tea.

What a great young man he has become! His mom would be so proud of him.

The prince also will visit wounded veterans at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he will tour the facility’s prosthetics center.

Harry’s tour of the States also includes stops in Colorado to visit the British Armed Forces team, which is competing for the first time in the Warrior Games, a tournament for injured service members.

Look how intently he listens to the children. Reminds me of our President!

What a great OP, Cha!

He sure does look a lot like his father. Though I can see his mom their too, it gives him a gentler look.

As for the red hair, yup....

There is a thread somewhere claiming he looks like some other guy, stuff as the guy didn't meet Diana until after Harry was born. But that photo above proves it!

Has anyone else taken note how often this White House serves as a welcoming, hospitable, & gracious beacon for showing appreciation & affection to the nation's citizens? That it is definitely not regarded as a royal palace by the first family?

in my post below..

Definitely noticed in all these years how this WH is a "beacon for showing appreciation & affection to the nation's citizens." As you so eloquently put it!

What a wonderful video. I just loved how at ease Prince Harry was with the children. Diana is watching him, knowing she raised two beautiful sons, kind, warm and sharing. Just like mom was.

The First Lady Michelle and Dr. Jill are such gracious hosts. They sure work hard too, making everyone feel welcome. Beautiful~

Excellent OP my dear!

Prince Harry comes in behind the scenes with Michelle, Jill, and the WH Staff to help out with the kids. Getting their gifts together for their Moms. He's quite engaging with all the children. We see the two boys in the OP got their pic taken on their phone with Michelle..

And, then they all come out en masse to surprise the Military Moms.. it was really all quite moving!
