Gardner man with history of exotic pet problems is charged with trying to hire hit man

Makes me wonder why he didn't just train one of his pets to do the murder for him.

A Gardner man was charged today with trying to hire a hit man to kill his ex-wife.

Rheuben Clifford Johnson III, 49, is charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder. Bond is set at $1 million. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today.

Police arrested Johnson on Tuesday night.

This will not be the first time Johnson has appeared in Johnson County District Court. In 1996, prosecutors charged him with abusing a pet monkey.

In an earlier case, a judge ordered him to remove a cougar from Olathe after the city cited him for keeping the 200-pound animal.

He sounds like a malevolent Dale Gribble from King of the Hill, with the pest removal business...wonder if he operates under the alias "Rusty Shackleford?"
