Quebec denies French student's immigration over English thesis chapter

Canada's Quebec province has denied immigrant status to a French citizen because she was unable to demonstrate adequate French-language proficiency.

Quebec rejected Emilie Dubois' application apparently because part of her university thesis was in English.

Ms Dubois came to Quebec from France in 2012 and completed a doctorate at a French-language university.

Quebec's immigration minister said in a statement on Thursday evening that the decision "doesn't seem to make much sense". He has asked officials to look into her case.

I seem to remember that the French think the Quebecois accent sucks. She probably speaks it better than the drone who rejected her. Her one chapter in English was about English language journals.

I speak what we call le français acadien, meaning Acadian French. It differs mainly in pronunciation, but we do have certain words of our own.

And yes, it can be difficult to understand. A friend of mine is Haitian, educated in France, and he tells me that he finds it difficult to follow conversation.

And the province provides classes in learning French to those who do not speak it.

As to the Québec accent, I disagree.
