History tells us we should listen to Nancy....

The distinguished Leader of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi one explained in a very cumbersome way that people would like the Affordable Care Act once it was passed as law and people were able to tangibly realize the positive effects. Of course, "we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it" is a very inarticulate way of saying what was clearly her intention.

The results have borne out her assertion. People very much like Obamacare (except for a few "fuck yous" from the peanut gallery). INSURANCE COMPANIES like Obamacare (see Wellpoint's increase adjustment to their profit projections). And I, among very many more, am not surprised the insurance companies like this -- it's working precisely as designed.

Back to Pelosi. Now she is saying that Obamacare is a winner in the midterm elections:

Asked whether the law figured to be a political winner or a loser in a competitive race for the House, Pelosi said, "I believe that it's a winner." She insisted it be referred to as the Affordable Care Act, its formal title, rather than as Obamacare, a label Republicans mockingly came up with but that the president has since embraced.

And I think we (and Democrats running for office or re-election) should all take heed. What Nancy Pelosi says is true. Whether you are a full-throated supporter of the ACA model or you are a public option proponent (such as myself) or you are a single payer advocate, the unifying truth is that Obamacare (ACA) has been a net advancement of the cause of universal healthcare. There are more of us than there are of them - and our ranks have just grown by at least 5 million.

So, don't be shy about Obamacare/ACA. Rather, embrace it. Don't pretend to want to "fix it", love it as it is in the now. If there are advances to be made, those will occur. Right now is the time to win the day. And our day is November 4th, 2014.
