Hillary Clinton

Bernie's real prize is the speakiing engagements and book deals he is looking to hoist him
and Jane into the 1%. Don't fool yourselves. Bernie's wealth envy is evident. Remember, he didn't work at a real job until he was 40 years old. His socialist ideas are more in keeping with entitlement for government to take care of everything.
He is 70+ now, not much in retirement from government salary that is much to depend on and he has a grandchildren and a son and family to provide for his family legacy. You will see Bernie accepting YUgee speaking fees, and signing huge book deals as soon as the convention is over...he doesn't have much time to waste.
It sounds crass, but you all know it is true. Running for President is Bernie's quickest way to the wealth he says he abhors for others. Book mark this and come back in a year. And, if Goldman will invite him, he will speak.
I call it wealth envy. Listen closely to what he says and how he says it and to whom he says it. The wealth gap is how he started out his campaign...Wall Street and the banks. His social justice issue except for freeing pot from the controlled substance list came much later when he found that several prominent black anti-Obama-anti-Clinton folks would support him. They largely changed the focus of his campaign message or at least added to it.
Now if you can find this not to be true, then color me repentant.

(103,805 posts)is your persistent antagonism.
In case you didn't know about it, Bernie and Jane were "set" for life the day he took office as a Congressman. He has a sweet pension and free healthcare for life along with other perks afforded all members of Congress, the Cabinet, SCOTUS and the White House.
I think you are pushing it with your antagonism and I, for one, would prefer that you stop it. It's bad enough with all the trolls and sour grapes coming from all directions. Give it a rest, please.
Antagonizing for sport just sucks, and so do the people who do it.

I'm beginning to wonder about your purpose for being here. I'm not a Bernie supporter and I don't go to the GDP page for a reason yet you insist on bringing your flame bait here to a secure room hoping someone will encourage you to continue what appears to be shit stirring at this point.
Maybe GDP isn't the only place you should be kicked out of.
Distasteful is putting it mildly.

Just sayin'.

(11,746 posts)They go out of their way to make my assertions of support for Democrats into a reciprocation in kind. I can't win with them unless I totally cave into their bullying, and that's not going to happen.

I think the Hillary Group would prefer you do that rather than tell us to STFU.
We have had about enough of that.

(58,373 posts)Google "Bernie Sanders assets."
His real estate tax deductions alone demonstrate he has multiple valuable properties and almost certainly is a millionaire. His attempt to hide this fact is the only reason I can see why Sanders was so reticent about releasing his full tax returns for 2014, which showed his real estate tax deductions.

A hypocrite from start to finish.

(58,373 posts)And it also matters where you live. Sanders is most certainly a 1%er compared to the rest of Vermont residents.
And another interesting thing about 1%ers, "80% of the top 1% practice 'stealth wealth' so that not even family members or friends know about the wealth." http://www.joshuakennon.com/how-much-money-does-it-take-to-be-in-the-top-1-of-wealth-and-net-worth-in-the-united-states/ That describes Sanders to a tee. He moved assets to his wife's name years ago and rental properties he previously disclosed suddenly disappeared from disclosures. http://www.politico.com/story/2015/07/bernie-sanders-wife-accounts-for-reported-assets-120261

(67,782 posts)I forget the details now, but it showed REPORTED income of about $205K, but real estate taxes and mortgage interest that indicated his true net worth could be much higher than he wants us to believe.
That is why he hasn't released the 2015 returns yet, even though Jane promised to release them two weeks ago today, on the tax filing deadline.
It's also probably why he wants to delay filing his Personal Financial Disclosure to the FEC until the end of June, which is after the last primary.
Speculation is that the 2015 tax return may show that their income last year (which includes the first 9 months of his campaign) had a huge increase, and that financial disclosure will show that their net worth is now much higher than that $300-850K number from his May 2015 financial disclosure.
No one begrudges them anything, like everyone else they're entitled to do what they can to improve their financial standing, but when the cornerstone of his campaign is being an average American and, in his words words "one of the poorest members of Congress", and he uses that to campaign and raise money for that campaign, the fact that his net worth is likely much higher than he's telling us is hypocritical.

(17,865 posts)I think he really is on the side of the 99 percenters. There should be no guilt in making good money though. I don't have anything against rich people. Having said that I still think Hillary is the better choice for president. That is all.

(32,629 posts)My opinion of him, though, is shaken every time he mocks her at rallies and riles his faithful against her. When he pushes the idea that Democrats are all corrupt, discounting all the organizations on the left as 'establishment' is also galling.

(1,359 posts)It's no surprise to see him pulling a cash-out parachute to boost his coffers before going off of the public paystub.
Here's what bugs me, though: He's been making over $100K for most of the 26 years he's been in federal office, House or Senate. How did he mishandle his money so poorly that he's NOT a millionaire yet?? And why should I support a man for POTUS, who is responsible for the federal budget, when he can't even manage his own finances well? It sounds too much like, "Well, I make a lot of money, but I'm not a millionaire, so make me President and I'll show you how to mismanage money on a national level."
No wonder none of his policy numbers added up to anything but massive deficits. It's how he runs his personal life too!

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Poster admits OP is crass
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon May 2, 2016, 03:12 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This alert is ridiculous. If you alerted on this in the Clinton group, you are clearly alert stalking.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: I don't care that it's about Bernie really. Any mention of progressive or liberal motives of being "wealth envy" are way out of line. That's how the RW keeps the half-wits and upper middle class in line. Scare them into thinking anything that helps the 99% has to be at their expense.
I suspect comments along that line are why we can't see Hillary's Goldman Sachs speeches.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Alerter, since when is 'crass' considered to be hide worthy? Sweet Jesus, some people here need to get a grip.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: It's crass; it's wrong; it's mean; and it's stupid. None of that violates any rules.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.
