Perhaps you might request that posts from this and other protected group are not sent to the Greatest Threads page.

That will actually protect your group from random posts. Otherwise, your protected group is being read (and therefore provoking reaction) from people not part of that group.

I assume many others are like me that they read DU from the Greatest Threads page. This page does not give any rules of protected or not protected groups. Further, since the posts are going out to the greater community on this page, it is not appropriate to protect such posts from comment.

The solution, like I said, is that if you want a protected group, ask for it not to be sent to latest or greatest threads. Then you will have no problem.

No.

In addition, if the purpose is to have a group to yourself. Why would you think it should be pushed to the greater DU readership without them being able to comment as they want.

A protected group should be in its own place. Then you will not have the problem nor will others be forced to determine what they are supposed to do with respect to posts they disagree with.

Every day I read posts from you reminding people of the purpose of the group. I have no problem with your group purpose but when I read a subject line I like on a public page, I get interested and read it. I dont always or usually check where it inititiated.

After reading a thread, it is jarring to be told when I read your post that the thread is only for one set of opinions. It wastes my time which is as valuable to me as to you. This applies to all such groups not just HRC. I just notice you posting this more. It seems like very day.

If you have problems with people posting what you dont want to threads in your group, it should be on you to do something about it. Otherwise, you will continue to get posts you dont want because your posts are going to a lot of people who are not part of your particular group who only want limited discussion topics.

In fact the only reason, I saw your OP was it was in greatest threads.

9. An easier point to understand

It is an easy concept that if you do not want a public forum with everyone having full access and freedoms, then keep it private. That is the easiest concept in the world.

If I want a discussion with only my friends and supporters, I do not broadcast our discussions through speakers to the street or stand on a soapbox. I invite them to my house and we discuss in our living room. Thus we do not hear anything from people we dont want to hear from.

People do not always look at what group a post initiated in because its not really relevant to the subject matter of a thread. Newbies to DU might not know that your group wants to be protected from critical posts when they read your posts in a public forum surrounded by posts that everyone can comment on. The Greatest Thread page does not identify your group as a protected group or identify that it is different than every other group that goes to Greatest or Latest Threads.

Keeping protected groups accessible only through their link should be the DU set up. This is not a hit on the HRC group. However, if you are constantly complaining like the OP that this is a protected group, you might want the software to make it easier. If someone wants to just post nice things about a candidate, they can find the protected group. If they want to read a thread of all sides, they can go to the public pages.
