Bernie Bros Made Me Finally Recognize Misogyny in America

Decades ago, Gloria Steinem had talked about the “click,” moments, those aha, revelatory, eureka moments when a woman suddenly recognizes the gender discrimination she faces. I am sorry to say, I never had one of those consciousness-raising moments. That is to say, I had plenty of them. But on the behalf of others. Never for myself.

Until now.

I have the Bernie Bros to thank for this.

.....

But still, I told myself that surely the people that I encountered online were not a representative sample. Sanders himself seemed like such a decent man.

Until...

Until... the infamous “unqualified” speech. That swooshing sound you heard was a million female heads spinning. Because if Hillary Clinton was “unqualified” to be president, what woman ever would be? Not in our lifetime, for sure. Click.

I posted this because it ends with such a great quote: I Am Woman. Watch Me Vote.

The GOP and the Bernie Bros are going to be watching a lot of women vote this year. That sound you're going to hear more of soon will be their male-privileged teeth grinding down to stubs.

it is not acceptable and we will not take it any longer. For the love of our mothers, daughters and any other relative who is a woman, it is time to step up and tell the GOP to leave women alone, don't tell us with our bodies.

Until... the infamous “unqualified” speech. That swooshing sound you heard was a million female heads spinning. Because if Hillary Clinton was “unqualified” to be president, what woman ever would be? Not in our lifetime, for sure. Click.

And then the another blow. Or click. Bernie had called her unqualified because he thought she called him unqualified. And he got that information from a Washington Post headline. Which, everybody soon knew was misleading. Turns out that the man who would be president didn’t bother to read the actual story. Ah, Bernie. Next time, read the damn story before you get in a tizzy, would ya?

So grateful all these former BS fans are speaking out now about why they're no longer feeling that damn burn.

Thank you, Mab~

They may be people sailing under false colors.

After this, the clicks began to grow. After his flame-out in the New York primary, Sanders claiming that the burden was on Hillary to work to win over his supporters. (Imagine Hillary making this demand in 2008.) Nobody in the media demanding that Sanders release years of tax returns, as Hillary had done. One story — one — about Sanders paying for his chartered plane to the Vatican out of campaign funds after claiming that this was not a campaign trip. (And no one accused him of dishonesty or corruption.) No major story about the child out of wedlock, the weird quotes about rape and sexual fantasies. Imagine if a female candidate had had this past.

It was a shocking demand and highly negligent as well. He made himself small when he demanded that it was all on her to reach out to his supporters. He's more of a novice than people realized, a selfish one too.

Good morning Cha!

They'd never cut Hillary slack for the stuff Sanders has gotten away with. I'm trying to imagine what would happen if they found an old essay Hillary had written where she described every male as wanting to be raped...she'd never hear the end of it.

Instead, people blame her for her husband's infidelity. On what planet does that make sense??

now.. after he's trained them to hate her. It puts berny in a weak position.

That's what we were saying.. what if Hillary had told Obama.. "it's up to you to win over my supporters.. I'm lazy.. I don't care about my country.. only me".

But, she asked her supporters to vote for Obama and she campaigned heartily for him and with him.. and look @ where she is today.. on the verge of being Madam POTUS.

11. This particular paragraph really highlights the double standard
Thu May 5, 2016, 10:29 AM
May 2016

One of the problems some people have in identifying discrimination is that they believe that a racial or gendered slur has to be used to be considered racist or sexist. No. It is the constant unconscious use of double standards applied to women and minorities, all the ways they have to "prove" themselves that straight, white males are never asked to do.

Some quick examples are those listed above and the call for "transcripts", "emails", "benghazi","birth certificate", "religion", "education transcripts", "sexual history", "qualifications" etc, etc, etc. The accusers find justifications for their attacks but never examine why they haven't felt it necessary to use them with other candidates or elected officials.

Another trend is for progressives to become unhinged when a Dem woman has a left/moderate stance on women or LGBT issues. Dem men are consistently given a pass for much more conservative positions and elected with nary a thought given to their poor standings with Naral, Planned Parenthood and the HRC. Review the popular Dem leaders and you will see they are far right of their female counterparts and rarely called on it.

Both women and minorities are expected to have exponentially more education, experience, credentials, endorsements and actual votes to be considered a viable candidate. We are seeing all those double standards in play in this election.

But, sanders gets a free pass and I'm so appreciative when he gets called out on his hypocrisy, double standards, and his blatant disrespect. Especially from his former fans.. because they liked him in the first place but then came to see the light.

Thank you, Haveadeam

would be gone so they ignored them and with Sanders they still are because they know Hillary will be the nominee.

His past statements/writings about women are disgusting and his theories about breast/cervical cancer OMG? Does he still believe this shit? Most women are not aware of his creepy past writings and theories.

Yuck I can't stand him.

What woman - including Republican - could support the blatant misogynistic sexism of the decades Trump has exhibited as his core personal character and values?

Now, what Muslim? What Hispanic/Latino? What Black American?

What Democrat?

What reasonably intelligent and informed person on Planet Earth?

When Republicans repeatedly target with broad brush specific groups of people, they make it about 'identity.'

Identity can also give us a profound sense of purpose and power. We are not all the same. That's why we need a Big Tent to give us cover!
