Hillary Clinton

In the Democratic presidential race, 47 percent of likely Democratic voters backed Sanders, 43 percent said they supported Hillary Clinton, former U.S. Secretary of State, and 11 percent were not sure.
Sanders strength is among people between the ages of 18 and 34.
The key, of course, for Sanders is a high turnout with young voters, while Clintons support is generally older, those with a college degree or post-graduate degree and upper income Democrats, Repass said.
The poll numbers included registered party members along with unaffiliated voters most likely to choose a particular partys ballot. The sample size was 315 for Democrats and 228 for Republicans, Repass Research officials said, with an overall statistical error size of +/-4.0 percentage points.
Back in February, in a much more crowded Republican presidential field, Trump still lead the way with 40 percent in the poll. Kasich finished 5th behind Cruz, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) and Dr. Ben Carson.
Three months ago, the MetroNews West Virginia Poll showed a much larger difference between Sanders, 57 percent, and Clinton, 29 percent, with 14 percent not sure.

I remember how the Bernie folks touted the February WVA poll showing Bernie up by 28 points in WVA... so I'm touting this poll showing him falling like a rock in the state in a poll by the same pollster.

(11,086 posts)Don't they realize that Bernie is even worse on coal than she is?

(10,014 posts)Hillary and Sanders are okay on coal although Hillary is more honest. It's some coal miners and coal company owners who can't see the writing on the wall.

(11,086 posts)I meant that Sanders is more extreme in his stance than Hillary, yet she is the one getting pilloried for it.
BlueMTexpat
(15,374 posts)of the campaign against her by the Sanders folks. She and Bernie have essentially the same stands on most issues, except for gun control. Her record shows that she is more effective and actually accomplishes what she sets out to do. His record of "accomplishments" is primarily verbal.
But yes, she is always the one pilloried while Bernie is not. And they say that sexism is NOT a factor. B***S***!

(92,433 posts)because she has taken a much tougher stand on guns than he has, but this poll is encouraging for sure
Thanks

(50,566 posts)Even though Sanders has a "more favorable" NRA rating than Clinton does (iirc he got a D and she an F) Democrats are still widely viewed as gun grabbers.
Some demographics of West Virginia

In his favor: LOTS of white people.
Not in his favor: There are more women than men in West Virginia.
REALLY not in his favor: Bernie's base hauls ass out of West Virginia the second they get a chance to.

(15,374 posts)Mr BlueMTexpat is a WVA native and we usually visit the state annually.
The typical "Bernie base" is not much in evidence there. There is a lot of "state capture" where polluting industries hold sway. It is a state that is difficult for Dems generally, especially liberal Dems. But there are good people there nonetheless and at least some of them remember Bill Clinton fondly, which is another plus in Hillary's favor.
Keeping fingers crossed. All she has to do is to get close and this poll is an encouraging one!
