Hillary should pick Sherrod Brown for her running mate IMHO. He is a progressive and holds almost identical progressive positions to Sanders with much more reasoned approach. Elizabeth Warren would love this ticket and work hard for it. Hillary would show by selecting him that she is not afraid to work with people who hold differing views from her and that she intends to govern with strength and pragmatism.
He voted against the Iraq war, against DOMA, against a ban on same-sex marriage, he wants to break up the big banks but gradually, he voted against CAFTA but is not unreasonable about trade (and even if he is, so what, Hillary will be President). He is a Senator from Ohio who beat a GOP incumbent twice. He is personable, but thoughtful, and is smart and a savvy pro-consumer advocate. I could find few things to criticize about him even if he holds a few views I don't agree with...but so does Hillary. This would a ticket that could make Ohio and PA safe for the Dems. He is widely regarded within the Dem ranks in the Senate. Study his background and tell me if you find anything that would keep him from being winner.
He encaps all the things Sanders hits Hillary for and would shut his face for good within the Dem party. His views are almost identical to Sanders on many issues but with far less nastiness. AND he is a super for Hillary.

(24,808 posts)My only concern is removing a sitting D from the Senate when we are so close to taking it back.

(24,808 posts)If he's asked he'll accept it. A heartbeat away from the presidency and the presumptive nominee for the office after Hillary's 8 years can be too much for any politician to pass up.

(14,766 posts)Kasich wants his Senate Seat....we already know that here in Ohio. So, let Sherrod be the VP...we also have other fine winners who can replace Sherrod and take on Kasich for the Senate.

(61,194 posts)But I feel that he would be of better use in the Senate and the Democrats need to take back the Senate.

(3,089 posts)He is much more likable than Bernie and the BS supporters would have nothing negative to say about him...they would just be angry that Bernie is not on the ticket.

(15,951 posts)he is a Senator & we need all the Senators we have. We have a shot at winning back the Senate this year but it will be close. My guess is that Team Hillary will wait until after Trump makes his selection to make a final decision.

(3,089 posts)shoe-in. Besides, won't we have picked up Bernie as a Dem Senator? At least that is what he says.

(7,520 posts)Bernie caucuses with the Democrats. Always has. His positions have remained largely progressive, and this election won't change that.

(53,194 posts)He is WAY too prone to vote against good bills he generally likes because he disagrees with one or two things in them. He voted against the Brady Bill five times, against the Amber Alert bill...and he's going to be pissed because the Democrats didn't choose him as our presidential candidate. It would not surprise me a bit to see him caucus with the GOP in the next term - ESPECIALLY if doing so would keep the Democrats from having a majority in the body.

(16,104 posts)We have to stop giving lip-service and serve our Democratic constituency!
As a liberal progressive, I would be more than happy with Sherrod Brown!
But I'm an old white guy!
This year - let's shake it up!

(24,808 posts)may be all the shaking up many people in this country will allow. Sorry to say it, but putting a Latino on the ticket may be a bridge too far for some.
We don't think that way, but we all know how much of the rest of the country "thinks."

(15,690 posts)really hope that Hillary does not choose ANY current Dem Senator OR ANY current Dem Governor. She will NEED them in the Senate and I do not want to risk losing ANY of these seats.
She has lots of people to choose from who would make outstanding running mates. One of my personal faves is Martin O'Malley, who would also tick a lot of boxes. He would have the same major downside as Brown (not a minority), but he wouldn't leave a political seat open, is every bit as progressive as Bernie is but with more to show for it than mere rhetoric, is outstanding on the environment, could have lots of appeal for millennials, and is a lifelong Dem who is a proven manager.
But I have full confidence that Hillary will choose the running mate that she feels will not only strengthen the ticket, but who will also be someone who will have her back ALL the way. She's made great decisions so far and I trust her in this.

(4,024 posts)he would be a great choice for VP. In addition to all of the positive things already mentioned about him, he comes across as a blue collar kind of guy.You know, the type that male voters would want to "have a beer with". Like Bush... except without the stupid. Hope this doesn't sound sexist about those of the male persuasion, but I think Brown would help Hillary with men because his persona is very masculine. Contrast him with "baby boy" Trump. (I hope I don't get "double standard" blasted for saying this! I'm just trying to think like those blue collar white guys who have their blue jeans in a bunch about voting for a woman.)
If I sound crazy, feel free to
